New Year, New Career? Has the New Year got you thinking about a change in direction? Perhaps a new career or getting back into study? If so, then the Colleges in Salford are here to help with a range of courses for adults (19+) starting this month. January is statistically the most popular month of the year for career changes, with many making it their new year’s resolution to explore new possibilities and further themselves professionally. The Colleges in Salford are a firm believer that it doesn’t matter who you are, your age, gender or background, everyone has the right to succeed in their chosen career, to further their education and better their life.  That said, the colleges offer a range of courses across the city for all kinds of people, in all kinds of situations. Adult courses in Salford can get you back into college, on your way to university or employment, help you change your career path, upskill and generally open doors in all directions. And remember, it doesn’t matter who you are or your situation. Access to Higher Education Courses Want to study go on to study a degree but don’t have the correct qualifications? Access to Higher Education courses do exactly as they say on the tin, they help adult students access university courses. If your heart is set on going to university but you don’t have the qualifications, then an access course is for you. An access course is equivalent to three A-levels and typically lasts one year. This makes them perfect for anyone who might have had time off from education or who left education without the usual qualifications for university access, such as A-levels or a BTEC. Many access students go on to succeed at university and beyond, with a large number of students pursuing new careers in a variety of directions. Our courses range from access to professions in science, creative writing, forensics, art, business, midwifery and construction, to name just some of what we offer. Entry to Access Think an access course might be for you but don’t have your level 2 qualifications such as GCSEs? Don’t worry, we also do Entry to Access courses that will get you where you need to be. How to apply? You can complete an online application form at www.salfordcc.ac.uk or request a paper copy from he.admissions@salfordcc.ac.uk.   ESOL, English for Speakers of Other Languages Do you speak English as a second language? If yes, then the Colleges in Salford have a course specifically designed for you, to help you improve your English and allow you to further your education or your career. But more importantly, places are available for courses starting later this month. One major barrier many face is that English is not their first language, and their level of English may be basic, stopping them from progressing with their career or studies, in the UK. But, we don’t feel this should stop someone from excelling, which is why we offer ESOL courses at a range of levels, right down to pre-entry. To apply or enquire, contact the college Admissions Team on 0161 631 5000.   FREE Community Learning Courses If you are a Salford resident, you might be eligible to attend one of our FREE community courses. Courses are designed to help you develop skills useful for employment and can lead you directly into further training or create job opportunities that were not previously available to you. Free courses build skills in a variety of areas including, English, ICT, maths, confidence building, positive wellbeing, counselling skills, childcare, independent living skills and construction essentials. Click here and find page 7 out find out how to book.   Functional Skills English and maths are considered to be the foundations of education and training in the UK, and Level 2 in these subjects is considered a pre-requisite. That is why we offer them, up to level 2, as a FREE course to all adults who haven’t previously gained a GCSE or achieved a grade D or less. How to apply?
