Outline
The course covers fundamental construction principles such as health and safety, construction methods, and materials. Students gain hands-on experience in key trades like bricklaying, carpentry, and electrical installation. The course also introduces digital tools used in the industry and explores sustainable practices within construction.
Assessment
Assessment consists of a mix of practical assignments, coursework, and projects that simulate real construction work. Learners are assessed on their practical abilities, understanding of theoretical concepts, and their application in work-like scenarios. External assessments may be included to confirm learners’ grasp of essential knowledge.
Entry Requirements
Typically, learners need at least four GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), usually including English and Mathematics. Some providers might have additional requirements such as an interview or demonstrated interest in construction subjects. This foundation year is aimed at those who want to build a solid base before moving on to the full T Level or apprenticeships.
