Make it Happen: George Peers and his Journey Through College at City Skills
At City Skills we are celebrating the amazing achievements of a collection of students as part of our Made it Happen Campaign.
George Peers is one of our Motor Vehicle Students who is just coming to the end of his Level 2 Course. George shared with us his Made It Moment below, a special achievement that he is particularly proud of. George has performed at the highest quality throughout his time with us at City Skills and we are excited to see what he goes on to next.
We got the chance to meet and speak to George about his time with us and shared his Made it Moment. Read what George had to say below:
What made you decide to do a course at City Skills?
“City Skills is one of the only places to do a course like this.”
“I was in school and not sure what to do, and I heard City Skills had a Motor Vehicle course and I just jumped straight in.”
“I applied and came for an interview and had a look over my work and they accepted me.”
How has your time with us at City Skills been?
“I have done two years here now from level 1, I had gone through a lot of personal hardship and with the help of my tutors and the pastoral team and got to the end of my course.”
What kind of support have you received from City Skills and how has it helped you?
“My tutors have helped me with my work, especially my portfolio, they have sat down with me and made sure I got over the line with it.”
“My tutors showed me not matter what happens ‘you can do it.’”
“Anyone can make it.”
What was your Made it Moment?
“My made it moment was when I completed my level 1 and the odds were stacked against me a bit, but we managed, it was a lot of work, but I managed to qualify and walk out with a certificate in my hands.”
“I was really proud I could do that with how difficult things were, and now I am well on my way to completing my level 2.”
“Having a portfolio of my work, that means when I walk out, I can look at it and its all my work, it’s my portfolio!”
What three words would you use to describe City Skills?
Fun, Exciting, Educational.
If you could give any advice to a new City Skills student, what would you say?
“If you are struggling to keep on top of the work you’re doing, or thinking about coming to City Skills give it a try and don’t be afraid to reach out.”
